For quick healthy bite while out sightseeing in Arizona try Rubio’s. Famous for fish tacos and a variety of other tacos and Baja Mexico dishes, it is fresh fast food and a nice change from regular fast food options. Taste Like Travel visited the Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill at 24920 N. Lake Pleasant Pkwy in Peoria, Arizona on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly.
We ordered the famous fish tacos and the new salmon fish tacos. Each had a fresh shredded cabbage mix on them and the salmon tacos also had fresh grilled corn in it. Both came with tortilla chips and a small cup of pinto or black beans sprinkled with queso fresco. Both were tasty! The fish was hot, cooked just right, and the tortillas soft and warm. The amount of food is perfect for lunch or a light dinner. There is a small salsa bar with a chipotle, a green, and a regular mild salsas, plus an onion and cilantro mix and limes available. All were tasty accompaniments to the food.
Another specialty item on the menu was the big burrito especial, with grilled chicken or steak, fresh guacamole, black beans, rice, sour cream, salsa fresco and creamy chipotle sauce. Also on the menu were a chili lime Salmon, a Mesquite grilled shrimp, and Mahi Mahi, available as burritos or tacos. The tacos could be on soft corn tortillas or thick flour tortillas. They had grilled gourmet Taco plates such as Portobello and poblano with habanera citrus salsa, cojita cheese, creamy chipotle sauce and sliced avocado. Other taco plate options were grilled chicken or steak, and garlic Herb shrimp. Salads, nachos and quesadillas round out the selections.
Cold beers are available as well as non-alcoholic beverages and desserts.
When we got our bill we thought they had missed charged us. We found out it was fish taco Tuesday – a bonus! This is a regional chain similar to a Chipotle’s or other fast food fish taco/Mexican restaurant. You can follow them on Facebook and twitter and find out more at rubios.com.
