While visiting our brother in Ft. Walton Beach for New Years, my sister and I grabbed a bite to eat and a locally brewed craft beer at Props Brewery and Grill, in the plaza next to the Publix supermarket.
With the name and decor paying homage to the local air force bases, Props Brewery and Grill seems to cater to those with a connection to the air force. However, I am sure that all are welcome, some even come regularly enough to have their names on one part of the wall.
Sister and I sat underneath a huge ceiling fan either made from a real propeller or made to look like one, and it is huge. We were just in front of the bar, behind which sit the four kettles where the beer is made. The place was full, many there to watch football on one of eight big flat screen tv’s. We were greeted promptly by a pleasant waitress and looked over the menu.
With at least four in-house made beers to choose from, I was having a hard time making a decision, so the waitress offered to bring me a sample of as many beers as I would like to help me make up my mind. That’s a nice customer care touch! After a couple of samples, we both selected the Four Kings brown ale. The beer had a nice dark color, and is made with caramel hops in a traditional brown ale fashion. It quenched our thirst and went well with the burger.
After reading more about Props beer in their webpage, www.propsbrewery.com, it’s interesting to find out that the beer we chose was developed and named by one of the co-owners who is from Texas.
The food menu consists of traditional bar food, burgers, sandwiches, and such. A beer recommendation is made for most of the food items. We decided to split their basic burger with bacon and sautéed mushrooms. It was a decent burger, and the waitress had it split between two baskets for us, another customer care touch!
With so many restaurants and bars in the Emerald Coast, Fort Walton Beach area how do you choose? You choose a local hangout with craft beers that has decent food. Props Brewery and Grill is a good choice. These guys would know my name if I lived here!
